Ignite Your Spirit: A Weekly Inspiration

The foolish builder is not an unbeliever nor a sinner. He hears the word, participates in religious activities but is selective in the truth he applies in his life.  He hears the word but does not allow it to have any impact on his life. He is a hearer, not a doer, admires the label of Christ but does not apply His teachings, appreciates but does not appropriate the life-changing power of Christ’s teachings.

Foolish builders build on sand and because the storms have not yet come, they are comfortable. They find solace in alternative foundations. The deception in these foundations is what destroys them in the end.

Today’s busy world is filled with endless distractions and demands. It is easy for God to slip into second place. We rely on our own intelligence, modern culture (so called pop culture), human wisdom, and worldly solutions more than the spirit. Yet the true source of strength, hope, and victory comes when we put God first in all things.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

The soul of man seeks an anchor that will not give up when the raging storms of life come. You see, life’s ups and downs are inevitable. Challenges and persecutions spice up our daily lives, though we would have rather avoided them.

In Hebrews 6:19, we find there is an anchor for the soul – a particular HOPE, THIS HOPE. It is both sure and steadfast, firm and secure, trustworthy and strong, unshakable and immovable. It rids off the veil of the holy of holies and gives us access. The person of Christ is then revealed, our anchor, both now and forever.

If indeed you bear the image of God, why do you entangle yourselves with the sinful pleasures and passions of this current age? Has morality lost its place in your heart? We claim to have this image of Christ yet lie, steal, malign, hate and stir up ill-motivated factions against one another. Where is Christ when you stand with others to scheme the downfall of your next-door neighbour?
